Price book and stock

Owners

Your shop has one price book, shared by every phone. Each job's price is worked out from its hours, your hourly rate and its parts, so when a rate or a part's cost changes, every job using it is repriced.

How a price is worked out

A job's price is its hours × your hourly rate, plus each part at its cost with that part's markup added. You set the rate and three markups (Low, Medium, High) under Settings → Pricing → Labour rate and markups, in the web app. Before you save a change, Pipr tells you how many jobs it will reprice.

Want a job to stay at a set price whatever the costs do? Open it and tick Lock the price.

A bill keeps the prices it was written with. Changing the book never changes a bill already written.

Starting your book

In the web app, open Settings → Price Book. Until you start your own, the phones use Pipr's starter book: example jobs and prices for your shop's trades (plumbing, heating and cooling, electrical). To make it yours, tap Start from Pipr's standard jobs: every job keeps today's price, locked. Then change what you charge differently. It reaches every phone at its next sync.

Took on a new trade later? Add Pipr's starter jobs adds that trade's example jobs; jobs already in your book stay as they are.

Jobs

Use New job or Edit job. A job has a code, a category, a title, a description, its hours and the parts it uses. You can mark it as a trip fee. To stop offering a job, turn off Offered on bills; old bills keep it.

A job shows No price yet until your rates are set and all its parts have a cost; it can't go on a bill until then.

Parts and suppliers

Under Parts and suppliers, add each part with its supplier's part number, the pack size and pack price, and its markup tier. Parts you no longer use are retired, not deleted, so old jobs still make sense.

Import a supplier's price list

When a supplier sends new prices, Import a price list updates your parts in one go (web app, owner):

  1. Choose the supplier.
  2. Choose the file. It must be a CSV: in Excel, use Save As → CSV first.
  3. Say which column is which. Pipr remembers your choice for next time.
  4. Check the preview of new, changed and unchanged parts, and which jobs' prices will change, then import.

Technicians and prices

On the phone, technicians pick jobs from the book with Add from price book. They can't edit the book. Anything not in it goes on as Add custom item.

Technicians can change a price on a bill (with a note) unless you turn off Technicians can change prices under Settings → Technicians. The office can always change one, and sees the starting price.

Stock

The Inventory tab (web app, owner and dispatchers) keeps track of parts on the shelf and on each truck:

Parts on a bill come off the technician's truck when the bill is finished. If they used different parts, they can change them under Parts on the bill line; it doesn't change the price. Stock can show below zero; Pipr never stops a bill over it.
